Hi All! Is there a website where to find a list of bazaars and handcraft markets in Abu Dhabi and Dubai? Outdoor markets like Covent Garden at JBR are not for this Sumemr heat, but other markets like the Charity bazaar at the Sheraton (Abu Dhabi) next Sunday are still running. How to learn about all these markets? I know the one at Times Square, the one in Bastakia, the ones organized by the single schools, etc, but I would like to learn more, because these are wonderful places where to find original products and great deals! Any idea how to find them out?

If you haven't been to the Antiques Museum in Al Quoz you should check it out. It's not a museum at all but a labyrinthine warehouse which sells all kinds of arabic lanterns, indian furniture, wooden ornaments, decorative bowls, lamps, vases, pashminas, throws etc. They also sell some bizarre giant carved wooden animals, and offer a picture framing service. Everything is a bit dusty, but that just adds to the Aladdin's cave experience, and the warehouse will be pretty hot by this time of year.
Be prepared to haggle - the more you buy the bigger the discount.
The website seems to be down at the moment: www.fakihcollections.com so I'll try to give you directions... from Sheikh Zayed Road, take the Times Square Center exit heading into Al Quoz. At the traffic lights turn left, and take the second road on your right (just before the blue Kanoo building); finally take the first right. It will look as though you're heading down a deadend but you should see the parking for the Antiques Museum on the right. Give them a call if you get lost, they're very helpful: 04 347 9935. |
