Nelson's

Nelson’s is a refreshingly unpretentious pub tucked away in the Media Rotana, Al Barsha. Upon entering this bustling bar, through the hotel’s quiet lobby, you’ll feel like you’ve somehow strayed into a London local.

Pitch up here to watch Premier League football matches, tuck into traditional English dishes and enjoy the cheerful banter of Brits abroad. Punters casually settle into large leather armchairs, prop themselves up on stools beside the busy bar, or cluster around widescreen televisions. The bar area, which sits in the centre, has been designed to resemble a typical Victorian pub giving it a distinctly English vibe.

Wander in between 12:00 and 20:00 and you can take full advantage of the bar's happy hour with Monday nights from 21:00 reserved for quiz night. Fuel up on traditional English dishes which are served up towards the back, in a cosy area that is separated from the bars smoky haze by arched wooden partitions and frosted glass. Here you can choose between crispy cod and chunky chips and a variety of roasts plus lighter options like a ploughman’s lunch. Top it off with an extra large, extra delicious, Eton mess. Portions are huge, prices are moderate and the vibe is as laidback as it gets.

I must admit though i've eaten at seven and five star restaurants and this one ranks right up with the best of them. Great food, great ambience, great decor and good service. Must try dish, the 'Eton Mess', close your eyes, forget about the calories and indulge, pure bliss. And the prices are good value for money. Worth the trek to Al Barsha.
