Mild learning difficulties such as dyslexia may be accommodated within mainstream international schools, and some are able to provide more support than others. Two learning centres cater for children with mild autistic spectrum disorders and ADHD, although most help seems to be targeted at younger children. Try The Learning Connection, which is run by an American teacher trained in special needs, or Sri Rafelsia, which supports children up to the age of 16. Some international schools are trying to rectify the lack of facilities by recruiting more teachers with special needs qualifications. Assistance in areas such as speech or occupational therapy may be available, so consult your child’s school or paediatrician for a referral.

Local organisations set up to support people with specific disabilities, such as deaf and blind people, can be helpful, but some resources and materials may not be in English.
